November 2011 - With almost every insurance company these days offering either automobile insurance or collision insurance to the public via an online store that consumers can utilize to compare different types of policies and costs, there’s none that offers a more comprehensive and customer-oriented service than Insurance Advice HQ, says the company’s managing director, Karl Blue.

“There’s no doubt that buying auto insurance online offers certain advantages, but not all insurance company are created equal, namely offering handy tools such as auto insurance calculator and policy descriptions, that are designed to help consumers make informed decisions about which policy may be best for them,” says Mr. Blue.

Noting that one of the first chores consumers face is learning how to identify their peculiar insurance needs, the auto insurance specialist said this is something that needs to be taken care of before anyone tries to buy auto insurance online.

“When consumers understand their basic automobile insurance needs, they are better able to compare automobile policies and coverage levels as they compare to price,” said Mr. Blue, but adding that price only becomes a true reflection of value when everything that is being compared is exactly identical.

Insurance policies in general, he stated, were rarely identical, and therefore comparison of value could never be achieved by comparing prices.

“This is not to say that price is not important, because it is. It is just not a true reflection of value,” he said.

Nevertheless, there are many different types of automobile insurance on the market, as it relates to Collision Insurance, Mr. Blues said its main purpose behind collision and comprehensive insurance is to mitigate damages that may arise if one’s vehicle runs into something.

“The legal premise behind this type of insurance policy is to protect when you cause damage,” he said.

Concerning differences, however, the insurance professional noted that there are obvious differences as to the types of insurance that covers collision type accidents. “For argument sake, let’s say that you are happily cruising down the street, and a dog runs out in front of the vehicle. In your attempt at avoiding to hit the animal, you swerve, and as a result, the vehicle leaves the road and you mowed through someone’s fence. The car comes to a stop, and both you and the dog escape any serious injuries. What happens now? Well legally, you are responsible for all the damage that was caused when you swerved to avoid the dog. Now, what if you have no insurance coverage on the car? Then you would be legally responsible for the damage caused by the accident,” Mr. Blue explained.

However, if in the case just mentioned above, Mr. Blue said collision insurance would have paid for the fence and any other damages, as long as the damages were not above the capitation amount of one’s policy.

“Capitation is the highest amount of money a policy will pay out,” he said, however, further noted that some comprehensive insurance policies, that include collision damages, may even pay for damage that occurred to one’s car, but not all of them.

However, the Insurance Advice HQ specialist advised automobile owners to pay attention to the difference in the types of collision policies. “It is also important to pay attention to the maximum pay out values of insurance policies,” he said.
